I'm very seriously considering this being the last Indy race I watch until Barnhardt is gone. I'm so sick of this league. The race itself was awful to watch, boring for the first part, then a crash fest by sub-par drivers, then a victory taken away by a league official who can't even bring himself to talk on tv for literally 1 minute.

I just sent an e-mail to IRL. been a fan since I was a kid...done with them!

I saw it twice on Sports Center late last night. It looked to me like Helio was driving EXACTLY on the tire marks of the normal racing line in that corner and did nothing that I would consider to be blocking. Bad deal. Anyway, even if it WAS blocking, don't the rules say that you are allowed one move to defend your position, but you're not allowed to weave your car?

Ouch; the replies seems to indicate at least a few of us care. Why the need for bold?

Helio wins in Edmonton.. but is penalized.

Helio "won": http://heliocastroneves.com/blog/201...-is-penalized/

Quote:
The Brazilian driver won in track, what would be his second victory of the year and 24th in the IZOD IndyCar series, but was penalized on the grounds of blocking Will Power in final re-start.

Although Helio Castroneves of Team Penske, was the winner of the Honda Indy Edmonton, the 11th stage of the 2010 IZOD Indycar Series raced in Canada today, the points the 1st place was awarded to New Zealander Scott Dixon, the Chip Ganassi Racing.

According to the race chief steward of the Indy Racing League, Brian Barnhart, Castroneves was penalized for, in the opinion of the sports authorities, blocking the Australian Will Power (Team Penske) during the re-start on lap 92.

The race ended on lap 95 and the Brazilian was confirmed as the 10th place, after the penalty of 20s added to his final time. “Obviously, I disagree with the decisions made by the race officials on the last restart in today’s race. It was absurd, because I never changed my racing line,” said Castroneves.

However, the driver lamented the fact that he acted emotional after the race and wished to apologize. “Although we do not agree to the penalty, but there is no excuse for my actions after the checkered flag. I apologize to my team, our sponsors, the fans and the entire IZOD IndyCar Series community for my behavior. My actions were totally wrong and I acted inappropriately to some people who are my friends and people I respect very much. Obviously, I am a very emotional person and today I let my emotions get the better of me and I’m very sorry for that. ”

Here is what Paul Tracy said in his blog. The ruling may have been applied corectly but it is a stupid rule.....

"As far as the penalty is concerned, I agree with it. I think all the drivers (except one) agree with it. It was spelled out to us very clearly in the driver meeting how to treat the corner. The natural braking and corner-entry line for Turn 1 is on the outside of the white stripes down the runway. The right side is only to be used for trying to pass someone on the inside. If you go to the right side to keep someone behind, then you're gonna get called on it. Well, Helio drove the whole straight on the other side to keep Will Power behind him. You live your life, you make your choices: Helio chose to block his teammate, he got penalized for it and it cost Penske a win."

As I said in my F-1 post, it was a farce of a sham of a mockery! (Stolen from Woody Allen.)

The closest Brian Barnhart ever got to a real race car was Right Rear tire changer on Al Unser's car. The man does not know an apex from a socket wrench and has absolutely no business ruling on a drriving incident suchas the one on Sunday. IndyCar needs to hire a real racer to act as steward this yoyo is clueless.

This was posted on twitter and I couldn't agree more.

That's a little rough. Brian has spent his entire life in Indy cars. His Dad was a USAC official, yes, he worked for Al Unser Jr. during the Domino's Pizza years. He has served many open wheel roles, and does in fact know a socket from an apex. Point is we think this was a bad call. Have any of you emailed the NFL or vowed to boycott football over a bad call? At least it wasn't a political call gifting a win TO the most favored son HC.

You being from Kennesaw, you are stuck with the Falcons as your local team. After living there myself years ago, I can see why you don't follow NFL....
